Who is responsible

The organizers are responsible for establishing appropriate privacy practices under applicable Canadian and Alberta privacy laws.

Privacy questions can be directed to yycbizbasketball@gmail.com, attention: Seth Anderson, designated administrative contact on behalf of the three co-organizers.

Information collected

The website may collect the following kinds of information.

  • Account information: full name, email address, authentication information, and account preferences.
  • Professional information: company or organization, job title, industry, LinkedIn profile URL, professional interests, reasons for joining, and the types of connections a member hopes to make.
  • Event information: registrations, attendance, waitlist status, payment records, event participation history, and sponsorship interest.
  • Optional information: profile photograph, biography, photography consent, directory visibility preferences, and marketing preferences.
  • Technical information: device and browser information, essential authentication cookies, website usage data, security logs, and analytics data where enabled.

Information we do not require

We do not require medical diagnoses, detailed health information, or sensitive demographic information for membership. Optional demographic fields are voluntary, are never inferred, and can be left blank.

Purposes

Personal information is used to:

  • Create and maintain member accounts.
  • Register participants for events and manage attendance and capacity.
  • Send event confirmations and operational updates about events you registered for.
  • Facilitate optional member networking.
  • Respond to inquiries and manage sponsorship interest.
  • Process payments for paid events.
  • Maintain website security and prevent misuse.
  • Produce aggregated participation reports.
  • Send promotional communications only where you have opted in or where legally permitted.

Member directory

Directory visibility is optional and disabled by default. Only members who affirmatively enable visibility appear in the directory.

Visible fields may include name, profile photograph, company, professional role, industry, LinkedIn link, and networking interests.

Private email addresses, payment details, authentication data, and internal administrative notes are not displayed in the directory.

Sharing

Personal information may be shared with service providers necessary to operate the platform, subject to appropriate safeguards.

We do not sell member data. We do not provide member contact lists to sponsors for independent marketing without appropriate consent.

Service providers

The website relies on third-party providers for the following functions:

  • Hosting, database, and authentication: Base44, the application platform this website runs on.
  • Payments: a third-party payment processor (currently Stripe), where an event has paid registration.
  • Email delivery: the application platform delivers transactional and, where consented, promotional email on our behalf.
  • Optional social sign-in: Google, where a member chooses to sign in with a Google account.
  • Media delivery: images and video may be delivered through the platform's file storage and content delivery network.

These providers may process or store information outside Canada, including in the United States, subject to their own safeguards and legal obligations. The organizers will confirm current provider details and data locations before making further technical privacy claims.

Security

The website applies access controls, authentication safeguards, and administrative restrictions. Only authorized administrators may access private member records, and member data is not exposed through public endpoints.

No system can be guaranteed completely secure. Please use a unique password for your account and contact us if you believe your account has been compromised.

Retention

We retain information only as reasonably necessary for operational, legal, accounting, safety, and administrative purposes.

Deletion requests are reviewed against any legally required retention before records are removed or anonymized.

Your rights

Members can, from their dashboard or by contacting us:

  • Access the personal information we hold about them.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Change directory visibility.
  • Withdraw optional consent, including photography and promotional email consent.
  • Request deletion of their account.
  • Contact the privacy administrator.

Marketing communications

Promotional messages require separate, optional consent. Commercial electronic messages include an unsubscribe function.

Operational messages about events you registered for are treated separately from promotional communications, because they are needed to run the event you signed up for.
