Legal & information
Participant Waiver & Risk Acknowledgment
This page sets out the risks of taking part in YYC Biz Basketball runs and the acknowledgment each participant is asked to give. The formal liability release that would accompany this acknowledgment has not yet been reviewed by Alberta legal counsel and is not in effect.
Release pending legal review
The formal release of liability for basketball activity has not been finalized by Alberta legal counsel and is not in effect. Registering for an event records an acknowledgment of the risk information on this page only. No release of liability is being accepted.
Voluntary participation
I understand that YYC Biz Basketball organizes recreational basketball activities at third-party facilities, and I voluntarily choose to participate.
Risks
I understand that basketball involves physical exertion and risks including:
- Collisions with other players.
- Slips, trips, and falls.
- Sprains and strains.
- Fractures and joint injuries.
- Contact with basketballs and equipment.
- Medical emergencies.
- Serious injury, disability, or death.
I understand that injuries may occur even when reasonable precautions are taken.
Fitness to participate
I confirm that I am at least 18 years old.
- I am responsible for assessing my ability to participate safely.
- I understand that I should seek medical advice if I have concerns about my fitness or health.
- I agree not to participate while impaired or when I believe I cannot safely participate.
Insurance disclosure
YYC Biz Basketball does not currently maintain its own participant accident or liability insurance. I understand that I should not assume insurance coverage is provided through YYC Biz Basketball.
Facility requirements
I understand that host facilities may require their own liability waivers or participation agreements. I agree to complete any required facility documentation before participating.
A facility waiver is separate from YYC Biz Basketball's own participation documentation, and facility requirements are shown on the event page where they apply.
Emergency assistance
In an apparent emergency, organizers may contact emergency services and share information reasonably necessary to obtain assistance.
Participant conduct
I agree to follow event rules and reasonable instructions from organizers and facility personnel.
Legal release
[LEGAL COUNSEL APPROVED RELEASE REQUIRED BEFORE ACTIVATION]
A release of liability covering Seth Anderson, Connor Curran, Dennis Agbegha, and any additional parties approved by counsel must be reviewed and finalized by Alberta legal counsel before it is presented to participants or relied upon.
Until an approved release is activated by an organizer, no release of liability is in effect and no acceptance of one is recorded as a release.
Host facilities are not included as released parties unless the appropriate arrangements have been confirmed separately.
Acceptance records
Once an approved release is activated, each event registration will require separate affirmative acceptance of the current version.
For every registration the system records the member ID, event ID, participant full name, document version, acceptance timestamp, and acceptance status, and organizers can export those records.
Where no approved release is in effect, the system records only that the participant acknowledged this risk information. That acknowledgment is not a release of liability.
